Change an email in a sequence that is already running

Fix a typo, rewrite a paragraph or swap a link in a sequence that is already sending, and test the change before you save it.

Open this screen in the app ↗

Every email in a running sequence can be opened, rewritten and saved without stopping the sequence.

Find the email

  1. Click Email in the left menu, then Sequences.
  2. Click the sequence in the list on the left.
  3. Click the Steps & Emails tab if you are not already on it.
  4. Click the eye icon on a row to read the email as your contacts see it.
  5. Click the pencil icon on that row to open it for editing.

Edit and save

  1. Change the Email subject in the left rail, or click into the email body and rewrite it.
  2. Click Send test email, type your own address, and click Send test to see the result in a real inbox.
  3. Click Save changes.
Important

Save changes stays greyed out until you actually change something. If you press the back arrow with unsaved edits, a box asks you to Keep editing or Discard changes — discarding throws the edit away.

Important

Your change only affects emails that have not gone out yet. Anyone who already received this email keeps the copy they were sent — there is no way to recall it or send them the corrected version.

The wait before an email cannot be changed once the sequence exists — the Sends dropdown only appears in the wizard. To change timing you have to delete the step and add it again, and a re-added email goes to the end of the sequence, not back into the middle.

A test sent from this screen goes out exactly as written: variables such as {{first_name}} appear as literal text, because they are only filled in for real contacts.

Add another email to a running sequence

  1. Click Add Email Step under the last email.
  2. Click a Send delay: Immediately, +1 day, +2 days, +3 days, +5 days or +7 days.
  3. Type a Subject line, or click one of the Quick ideas.
  4. Click Add Step.
  5. Click the pencil on the new row and replace the placeholder body with your own words.

A new step is always added at the end, and it starts with placeholder text reading "Write your email here...". Write the real email before anyone reaches that step.

Pause, rename or delete the sequence

The sequence header, with enrolment and engagement figures. diagram
  1. Click Edit in the header to change the name, description or trigger.
  2. Click Pause to stop new people being enrolled. The button becomes Activate to switch it back on.
  3. Click the bin icon and confirm the pop-up to delete the sequence.

Pause only stops new enrolments — everyone already in the sequence keeps receiving the rest of their emails on schedule. Deleting the sequence is what stops them, and that also permanently removes its emails and its whole enrolment history.
