Which triggers actually start a sequence
The Trigger step offers four starting points and they do not all behave the same way — here is exactly what makes each one fire, and how to start a sequence by hand.
Open this screen in the app ↗A sequence only sends to people who get enrolled in it, and enrolment happens at the moment something specific occurs. A well-written sequence attached to a trigger that never fires sends nothing at all — and nothing on screen tells you it is idle.
Look at: The four trigger cards, including the Draft only badge on Tag from Settings
New lead
The most reliable trigger. Three things enrol someone into an active New lead sequence:
- Submit one of your funnel forms — the visitor is enrolled and the first email is queued.
- Book through your booking page — a booking also counts as a new lead.
- Add or import a contact inside the app carrying the tag
lead.
Keep exactly one New lead sequence active at a time. When a funnel form is submitted the system looks for a single active sequence with this trigger — if two or more are active it finds none of them and nobody is enrolled, with no error shown. Pause the extras.
Each contact is enrolled in a given sequence only once, and the funnel-form route skips a contact already marked as a paying customer.
Call booked
A booking made through your booking page enrols that contact into every active sequence whose trigger is Call booked — and the same booking also enrols them into your active New lead sequence, so if you run both, a person who books receives both sets of emails.
Someone already partway through the same sequence is not enrolled a second time. Someone who finished it earlier can be enrolled again by a new booking.
Payment received
This trigger does not start anything today. When a Razorpay payment arrives, the contact is tagged payment-received (or higher-ticket) and every sequence that person is currently receiving is stopped — but no sequence is started. A sequence saved with Payment received can sit marked Active and never send to anyone.
Until this is connected, follow up after a payment by hand: send a one-off campaign, or add a tag inside the app and use the Tag from Settings route below.
Tag from Settings
The wizard marks this Draft only and will not activate it for you. You can still switch it on afterwards, and it does work — but only for tags added from inside the app.
- Click Save as Draft at the end of the wizard.
- Click the sequence in the list on the left of the Sequences screen.
- Click Activate in the sequence header.
- Open Contacts, tick the people you want, click Add Tag, and choose the tag you set as the trigger.
Only a tag added from inside the app starts this sequence — from a contact's page, the Add Tag button on Contacts, creating a contact with tags, or importing a list with tags. A tag applied by anything else — a payment, a funnel form, another automation — does not start it.
Start a sequence by hand
Any sequence can be started for chosen people, whatever its trigger says.
| Name | Phone | Tags | Status | Source | Date | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
- Open Contacts.
- Tick the contacts you want to enrol.
- Click Enroll in Sequence in the bar that appears.
- Click the sequence name in the dropdown.
Manual enrolment sends the first email straight away. It ignores both the 15-minute schedule and the 10pm–8am IST quiet hours, and it works even when the sequence is Paused. Read the first email before enrolling a large group.
Contacts already enrolled in that sequence are skipped, so clicking twice will not send twice.
